Q. What is the difference between Captain! and Underway_Captain!?
A. Captain! is a standalone program. Underway_Captain! requires Flight Simulator X.

Q. What is the price of Captain!?
A. Captain! itself is free. Captain! will only work within the Naval Engagement! environment. There will be a nominal fee for access to the Naval Engagement! environment, if required. For now our Hosting dervice is hosting us for free. We feel very honored that they have supported us over the years.

Q. Do I need a flight simulator to use Captain!?
A. No! Captain is a stand-alone application. No flight simulator is required. Although you will have no porthole to look out on the ocean, all data will be available to you, just as if you were in a real CIC (Combat Information Center).

Q. What is Naval Engagement!
A. Naval Engagement! is a real time 24/7 multi-player environment through which Underway!, Captain!, Commander!, and Controller! communicate and controls non-player platforms.

Q. Where do I put Captain!?
A. Captain can go anywhere you like! Coming soon it will have it's own auto installer that will put everything where it belongs and update your system automatically to the latest versions.

Q. How can I tell if I'm connected properly?
A. The Captain! Chronometer should begin updating as connection to the simulation (Naval Engagement!) occurs.

Q. I was cruising around with all of my radars on and there was nothing on the radar screen.
A. Captain! uses curvature of the earth. The higher your radars are above the waterline the further your radar can see - out to it's maximum range.

Q. I deployed a tail sonar and it seemed to take forever until I got an ESM report.
A. Captain! uses realistic times and speed for deploying of variable depth sonars. It can take a long time (20 minutes or more) for some sonars to deploy.

Q. A target I was tracking on fire control radar lost it's contact. What is wrong?
A. Most fire control radars have a limited turning ability. Once outside of the maximum slew angle, contacts can no longer be held. The same is true for search radars, though most of them have almost 360 degree coverage.

Q. When I start Captain! a requestor pops up saying it cannot connect to Naval Engagement!
A. One of three things may be wrong:

  • Your internet connection is broken
  • The server IP address is incorrect
  • Or most likely the server is down

Q. I fired a missile and cannot see it although it shows up on my radar
A. There is a limit to how many "aircraft" are displayed by Flight Simulators. You can try reducing the range of displayed objects - which should be no more than about 15-20NM

Q. Is there a developer's SDK (Software Development Kit) for Captain!
A. We are working on an SDK. Feel free to request any gauge you wish. We will try to accomodate your request. We're always looking for new ideas on displaying data in Captain! that can help you manage your combat situational awareness.
